There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I've lived in Eastside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The housing market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..
