First post here. I'm originally from Los Angeles and The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Rent is about $1,790/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -New Brunswick sits at 467.9 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 55,744 people. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2022 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The food scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
