Day-to-day life in New Carrollton, MD

OK so Crime rate is something to consider -New Carrollton sits at 253.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $80,292 in New Carrollton. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Anyone in a similar situation? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 41, moved here 3 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Riverside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The outdoor recreation situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The public transit is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
