Considering New Castle vs Chicago -help me decide

Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from St. Louis and Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -New Castle sits at 285.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Minneapolis it's pretty good.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
