I'm a college student here and The median home value here is around $196,600, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $88,306, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $196,600 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..
