Housing market in New Haven — is it worth buying?
Median home value here is around $249,000. Prices are reasonable compared to major metros. For those renting, typical rent is $1442.
Is now a good time to buy in New Haven? Or better to keep renting?
Looking for opinions from both homeowners and renters.

Check out the University District area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Highland Park. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Rent tip: look for places in fall. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

I've lived in University District for 3 years and it's a hidden gem honestly.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 4 years and my experience is very similar.

I'd add that the school system has been improving steadily. Otherwise spot on!

As someone who moved here from Phoenix, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Eastside and Lakewood are perfectly safe.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 6/10.
