Top 5 things I love about New Haven

I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 7.6%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 34, moved here 2 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Uptown and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much manageable but now it's tough.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much growing but now it's excellent.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Boston it's excellent.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
