Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $150,300, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 27,926 people. With a population of 27,926, New Iberia is a smaller city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much wild but now it's average.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Nashville it's better than expected.
