New Iberia quality of life -am I missing something?
Curious what people think. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Should I be concerned? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Riverside area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Tampa about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..
