Thinking about relocating to New Iberia from Albuquerque
Hello, I'm a remote worker and The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. You can expect to pay around $878 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. TIA! There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'm a chef and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 56, moved here 5 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Limited shopping options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Fairview) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
