Rent vs buy in New Milford -what makes sense?

OK so We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -New Milford sits at 6.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What would you do? Thanks! The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The pet-friendliness is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely underrated and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
