Career opportunities in New Orleans, LA

I'm single, late 20s, and Rent is about $1,211/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Denver it's pretty good.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Dallas about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 3 years. Moved from Seattle for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
