Hey folks, The median home value here is around $296,400, which seems about average. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I work in real estate here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is tough. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 10 years. Moved from San Diego for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Dating scene is rough. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The safety is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
