Is public transit usable in New Orleans?

Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $1,211/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 16.3%, which is higher than I expected. Household incomes average around $55,339 in New Orleans. Homes are going for about $296,400 on average. Average temperature is around 72°F, so it's warm year-round. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Thoughts? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Uptown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The traffic scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 15 years. Moved from Houston for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Chain restaurants dominate. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Houston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The weather is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's challenging.
