So, I've been here for 8 years and You can expect to pay around $866 for rent here. Homes are going for about $164,600 on average. It's a a small town city with about 17,563 people. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? TIA! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 57, moved here 5 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Downtown and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's underrated.
