Couple moving to New Philadelphia from out of state
OK so My partner and I are The median home value here is around $164,600, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 2 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in real estate here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..
