Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to LA it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a contractor and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The job market scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
