What to expect moving to New Rochelle?

Hi all, We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $667,300, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,830 for rent here. Rent is about $1,830/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from New York about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The dating scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 14 years. Moved from Chicago for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
