Working remotely from New Smyrna Beach

Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thanks in advance!

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The public transit is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much established but now it's tough.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from New York about 7 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 5 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 46, moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in West and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cost of living situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
