Things New Windsor needs to improve

Hey folks, I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 1,338 people. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $330 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Not enough green space
Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Pine Hills for 13 years. Moved from Chicago for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is decent - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Bugs and humidity in summer. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a project manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The healthcare scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..
