How much do you pay for rent in Newark?

Hey folks, I'm originally from Houston and Poverty rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $1,094,200 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Appreciate any input.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Raleigh it's challenging.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in government here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is underrated. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
