Moving from Sacramento to Newark next month

I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Newark sits at 173.7 per 100K. The median home value here is around $1,094,200, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,730/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $2,730 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. Any help is appreciated. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for family and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The nightlife is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Westside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
