Just moved to Newark, any tips?

You can expect to pay around $1,611 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
