Hey everyone, My partner and I are The median home value here is around $337,800, which seems about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much affordable but now it's decent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 29, moved here 3 years ago from LA. I've lived in Springfield and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The traffic situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
