Raising a family in Newark -thoughts?

Hey everyone, I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $1,012 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Newark sits at 144.1 per 100K. Poverty rate is 13.8%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $122,600 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
