Newark housing prices -when will it stop?

Curious what people think. I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much established but now it's average.

Came here for school and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The healthcare is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in North for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cost of living scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Raleigh it's surprisingly good.
