Newark in the winter -how bad?
I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 11.8%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Newark sits at 296.0 per 100K. Rent is about $926/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.
