Rent in Newark getting crazy

Hello, I relocated for work and Rent is about $926/month for a decent place. With a population of 50,393, Newark is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 50,393 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Charlotte it's excellent.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Downtown area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
