Curious what people think. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $91,389, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 25,622 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Old Town area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is decent in most areas.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in construction here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is pretty good. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 30, moved here 8 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Downtown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The cultural scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
