Worst things about Newberry nobody talks about

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm originally from Kansas City and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 17.7%, which is higher than I expected. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
