First post here. We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Newfane sits at 151.7 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much competitive but now it's improving.
