Hey folks, I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $1,487 for rent here. Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. With a population of 30,551, Newington is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 14 years. Moved from San Francisco for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Chain restaurants dominate. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Downtown area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
