Hey folks, I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $98,585, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $98,585 in Newington. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 33, moved here 8 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Westside and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The walkability situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely underrated and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in education here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
