Affordable areas near Newport?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $605 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thanks in advance! Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
