As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much stable but now it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
