Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 8.8%, which is pretty low. Any advice would be great.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Downtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much reasonable but now it's excellent.
