Is Newport News a good place to live?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and Crime rate is something to consider — Newport News sits at 595.5 per 100K. Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. Rent is about $1,285/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I overthinking this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Seattle it's decent.
