Living in Newport -the reality

Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $404,800 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,153 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Easy commute
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
- Not enough green space
Any advice would be great. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
