Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 6.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 16,043, Niceville is a small town. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I work in healthcare here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is pretty good. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 39, moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Riverside and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for school and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The nightlife is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in West area are solid. Kids love it here.
