Anyone else feel this way? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cheers. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 14 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Minneapolis it's tough.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Hope this helps!.

I'm a nurse and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
