Biggest downsides of living in Norfolk?

Longtime lurker here, It's a a smaller city city with about 25,962 people. Poverty rate is 6.8%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Let me know your thoughts. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

I'm a real estate agent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
