Anyone else love living in Norfolk?

Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 12.6%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $271,900 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I overthinking this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Indian places. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The food scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much affordable but now it's tough.
