Weekend activities in North Arlington?

OK so I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 16,368, North Arlington is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -North Arlington sits at 120.9 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,706 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Any advice would be great. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in The Heights area are improving. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for family and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The cultural scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
