Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Austin about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The dating scene is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Charlotte it's challenging.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2017 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Lakewood for 9 years. Moved from Seattle for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Dating scene is rough. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
