Median household income is $72,125, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 10.2%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
