Moving from San Diego to North Babylon next month

Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 18,208, North Babylon is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -North Babylon sits at 22.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Asian.

No regrets on my end..
