First post here. It's a a small town city with about 10,999 people. Household incomes average around $99,551 in North Bellport. Poverty rate is 6.5%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $392,100, which seems about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Worth the trade-offs? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Downtown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
