Freelancing from North Charleston -experience?

Curious what people think. You can expect to pay around $1,364 for rent here. Median household income is $62,789, which feels about average for the area. It's a a mid-size city city with about 117K people. The median home value here is around $267,700, which seems about average. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 26, moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Westside and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Houston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..
