Should I move to North Charleston or stay in Sacramento?

Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2014. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $62,789, which feels about average for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Let me know your thoughts. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Riverside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
