I work in marketing here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Lakewood for 10 years. Moved from Austin for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Summers can be brutally hot. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Meadowbrook area are challenging. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 44, moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Old Town and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
